Matthew is a neurosurgeon practicing in Victoria, Australia. Matthew practices all aspects of neurosurgery and spine surgery with a specific interest in brain mapping for brain tumours and epilepsy, spinal disorders as well as neurovascular surgery.

After completing basic physicians training including the fellowship exam he decided to embark on a path of neurosurgery and undertook training through the Royal Australian of College of Surgeons (RACS) program. After completing his fellowship in neurosurgery, Matthew undertook further training in flexible endoscopy at the CURE hydrocephalus hospital in Mbale, Uganda before moving to the United Kingdom, to undertake fellowships in functional neurosurgery at The National hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (Queen’s Square) and Cambridge University Hospital (Addenbrooke’s) to refine his skills in complex neurovascular disorders and minimally invasive spine. Matthew is the head of Epilepsy surgery at the Alfred Hospital and works as a neurosurgeon and spine surgeon at the Austin Hospital.

In 2023 Matthew was awarded the Dr. Lena Elizabeth McEwan and Dame Joyce Daws Churchill Fellowship in Surgery (Neuromodulation and Lesioning) and undertook further sub-specialty training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester and other centres in the USA. In 2024 he developed the first laser interstitial therapy (LITT) program in Victoria.
